This song was inspired by a friend who was going through a very difficult time in his life with addictions. It was actually much worse than anyone realized at the time, we thought it was just gambling and alcohol but there was much more involved. It seemed to me that every time we offered him advice to change his ways it was like kicking him in the arse! Somehow I got it into my head after a lot of falling off the wagon on his part he was telling me to “Eat my shoes” I was kicking him in the butt and he was saying.. you might as well go and eat your shoes! Bizarre ? maybe but it inspired the song so there ya go! By the way , he battled his demons and became the hero we knew he was. Hes been clean now for a few yrs! Well done dood, you know who you are!
Doubletalk
Doubletalk was a peculiar project whereas I wrote and performed a really great vocal very quickly but never finished the song! The lyrics are about the power of truth and integrity and was inspired by a deal I was doing at the time. I came to realize just how tricky contracts could get! Paranoia in business is solved by a contract but it served to remind me just how much I value truth honesty and transparency in communication. After a month or two in desperation to at least have a filled track I simply copied and pasted the vocals from the first half of the song to the second half and called it Doubletalk! Cheating? maybe but it sure worked! and I think is ironically apt!
